LSC Group Consultant Joins Council of Prestigious Mathematics Society

08/04/2009

Mathematical modeller Nira Chamberlain has recently joined the Council of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA).

The IMA is the UK's learned and professional society for mathematicians, promoting mathematics research, education, and its use in business, industry and commerce.

After being nominated late last year, Nira was co-opted to the Council of the IMA in December, joining some of the leading mathematicians in the country.

Since joining LSC Group in 2002 Nira has put his mathematical skills to work on improving through life support for several projects, including;

  • a stochastic artificial neural network addressing engineering affordability in large-scale commercial projects,
  • an automated Through Life support cost model for the Future Aircraft Carrier project. This requires no manual operation and received MoD accreditation,
  • a discrete event simulation that models the software support service strategy of the BOWMAN global communication system.

Nira is currently applying mathematical modelling techniques on the Future Submarine project.
