Katie McLeman, Consultant at LSC Group, took to the skies with the Black Knights, Royal Artillery Display Parachute Team, raising money for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help.

Dozens of daredevil fundraisers took part in the looked to encourage over 125 jumpers to take part over the two day event, celebrating their 125th year anniversary.

Volunteers jumped in tandem with members of the Black Knights at Netheravon Airfield Camp in Wiltshire, freefalling from 13,000ft at around 130mph.

Katie jumped in support of SSAFA despite being petrified of heights, here she reflects post jump: "That has to be the best experience ever! There were some definite nervous laughs during the training and whilst getting harnessed up before take off. As I jumped I expected to panic or feel out of control but it seemed really natural and I couldn't get over how safe I felt. The landing, which was slightly wayward and not quite on the drop zone, was very gentle and when I thought I would feel relief to get to the ground all I wanted to do was go back up and do it all over again! I would recommend it to anyone; The Black Knights were brilliant and thank you to the SSAFA girls for organising it."

George Webb, LSC Group Managing Director, having been a supporter of this charity for some years, has offered to match every pound raised. “SSAFA is a very deserving cause and that is why we have chosen it as our corporate charity for 2010. We have been involved in a number of SSAFA organised initiatives throughout 2010, but the Big Jump is one of the more challenging. Katie is flying the flag for LSC Group, and we are proud to support her by matching her fundraising efforts pound for pound – all in aid of a fantastic cause”.

The Big Jump is an exciting way of raising funds to support SSAFA Forces Help’s vital work assisting both current and former members of our Armed Forces and their families.

The Association’s Director of Fundraising, Claire Hoather, said: “The Big Jump is a fantastic way to show your support for our servicemen and women and I would like to say a big thank you to all those who are taking part and, of course, the Black Knights.”
