National Nuclear Labs KMS

Developing and Facilitating a Knowledge Management Programme for the National Nuclear Laboratory

The National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) (formerly Nexia Solutions) provides technology services and solutions across the nuclear fuel cycle.

Challenge

The NNL found increasing difficulty in capturing the intellectual capital that exists across the organisation.

With the core corporate asset being a unique breadth of capability and expertise, the NNL looked to develop a knowledge management programme that would improve the capture, storage and re-use of knowledge throughout the organisation.

Solution

Since 2006, LSC Group has been working with the NNL to develop and implement a knowledge management programme.

LSC Group was initially asked to undertake a benchmarking exercise to assess the maturity of the existing approach to knowledge management within the NNL.

LSC Group has since lead the development and implementation of the programme by which to transform knowledge management within the NNL,

Benefits

The NNL has embarked on a series of transformation projects by which to address the issue of knowledge management through a holistic approach. The identified benefits include:

  • An organization-wide sharing and learning culture;
  • Proper value, status and focus attached to people as a knowledge management resource;
  • Maximizing the commercial return of knowledge throughout the organization;
  • Improved information management;
  • A comprehensive and systematic infrastructure for knowledge management.
